Waller High School Counseling Center provides our students with academic, personal, and social advising to assist them in their successful high school career.  Our staff works together to welcome and help acclimate students upon their entrance to graduation at Waller High School.  A key component of the counseling center is to provide information and resources for students regarding plans after high school, such as: college, military, trade and technical training, and entrance into the work arena.  The counseling center provides many programs, such as: Career Day, College Night, Generation TX Week, and Financial Aid Night.

Career Day
Waller High School will be hosting a Career Day on Wednesday, October 26th from 7:20am-11:46am. Career Day gives us the opportunity to partner with our community to expand career awareness for our students.  Representatives’ sharing their expertise and career success with our students helps make a difference in their lives.  During the Career Day, students will have the opportunity to explore the different careers represented and speak with representatives from various career fields they might be interested in.  Representatives will set up a table related to their career field and be prepared to answer questions from students regarding the following:  job description, education/training requirements, salary range/advancement opportunities, job benefits/security satisfaction, stressors, transfers, hours involved, and future of the field.

College Night
Waller High School will be hosting our annual College Night on Monday, October 3rd from 6:00pm-8:00pm.  This is a great opportunity for students and parents to meet with representatives from colleges and universities, technical schools, and the military.  The counselors will also be hosting Parent Meetings that night in the auditorium.  The Junior Parent Meeting will be from 5:45-6:30, Freshman and Sophomore Parent Meeting from 6:30-7:15, and Senior Parent Meeting from 7:15-8:00.  Hope to see you there!

Generation TX Week
In 2011, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board engineered the development of a campaign to increase awareness and build support for the new college and career readiness standards, prepare students for all postsecondary education options, and clarify the application process for postsecondary admission and student financial aid. The higher education campaign, Generation TX is a statewide movement focused on creating a culture of college and career readiness that leads to the most successful generation in Texas history. All over Texas, students are standing up, finding their voices, and fueling the movement.
Waller High School will take an active role in providing comprehensive information regarding the pursuit of higher education during the week of October 3rd through 7th. The legislation requires information on higher education options, admission requirements, and scores necessary on recognized assessments be included in the information provided to students. During this week, Waller High School will host an array of activities including videos on higher education, postsecondary options, paying for college, along with a few of our staff members’ personal college journeys. Activities during the week will also include a motivational speaker and college awareness games/trivia during lunches.  Helpful information and resources are available on the College for All Texans website (http://www.collegeforalltexans.com/) and Generation TX website (http://gentx.org/).

Financial Aid Night
Waller High School will be hosting a Financial Aid Night from 7:00pm-9:00pm to help parents and students with the financial aid application process. WHS’s Financial Aid Night will include a workshop on how to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) with college financial aid advisors on hand to assist parents and walk them through the process. The Financial Aid Night will include a presentation before the workshop begins with information about all the financial aid resources available to high school seniors including scholarships.  Spanish translation and help with the TASFA (Texas Application for State Financial Aid) will also be provided.
