COUNSELORS CORNER

Waller High School Counseling Center provides our students with academic, personal, and social advising to assist them in their successful high school career. Our Staff of Holly McLean - Students A - D,  Joy McCaffety - Students E - K, Christy Smith - Students L - Ri, Jennifer Leigh - Students Ro - Z, Alice Stewart - Career and College Coordinator/ Scholarships, Stephanie Brister, Administrative Assistant, and Tracy Pershall, Registrar, work together to welcome and acclimate students from entrance to graduation at Waller High School. A key component of the counseling center services is to provide information and resources for students regarding plans after high school, such as: college, military, trade and industrial training, and entrance into the work arena. The counseling center provides many programs, such as: Career Day, College Night, and Education – High School and Beyond.

Career Day is an annual event where many partners from the business community come to Waller High School to enrich our students with presentations about many career pathways. These presenters provide information such as; the educational requirements, skills needed training, salary, and interest within the overall dynamics of their career field.

College Night is a very unique event at Waller High School, here we not only bring in representatives from various colleges to speak to students, we include military representatives, trade and industrial schools, and certificate programs to directly transition into the workforce. Along with admission information we provide information about financial aide, and dual credit courses to get an early start on college.

Education – High School and Beyond coordinates with the requirements of Texas Education Code – 29.911 to provide a week of grade appropriate activities and presenters to help students plan for post secondary opportunities. Although students are given the benefits of higher education we also provide information regarding other career pathways. Information about college entrance exams (ACT and SAT) and the registration procedures are discussed in detail.

Individual and Personal Graduation Plan Coordinator – Joy McCaffety assists all students, but with an emphasis on at-risk students to develop and implement graduation plans to complete high school in four years. Joy provides individual academic counseling to inform students of the resources available to assist them with the completion of their plan. Oftentimes, these students might be in need of some credit recovery. Connected with this program are many facets of our night school, summer school, and HOPE credit recovery program.
